Upton upon Severn

Image
Thursday 31st March  Day 1 As we left home for this weeks day trip we didn't really know where we were going, after popping into town to get some cake to go with tea we sat on the car park and decided to go to Malvern. We took the A38 through the city of Worcester, which although busy wasn't a problem, as we drove past Kempsey we had a quick change of mind turned left and headed for Upton upon Severn. We parked easily on the long stay car park just out of town, pay and display of course but at only £1 for two hours was good value. The quick walk to the ticket machine taught me one thing, to put my coat on! it was absolutely freezing, 5 degrees on the thermometer. On the second attempt to leave the van we had thick winter coat, wooly beanie hat and gloves, it was still cold and as we left the warmth of vera it started to snow. Upton is a lovely little town is a situated on the west side of the river severn about 5 miles from Malvern. The disti...

Kinver Edge & Rock Houses

Thursday 24th March  Day 1 This weeks day trip was a quick drive down the road to Kinver Edge in Staffordshire. Kinver Edge Considering we only live 4 miles away it has been years or closer to decades since we last visited, after Adele had finished work we drove down the A449 to Kinver, we had thought that we would go up onto the 'Edge' first, then visit the National Trusts rock houses then may be call into the village on the way home but as the day unfolded we ran out of time to go into the village. We arrived on Kinver Edge around 11.00am we checked out the display boards and decided to take one of the walks  we took the purple route, a steady 2.5 mile circular walk around the 'Edge' taking in the woods, heathland, around to 'Nannys Rock' and up onto the iron age hill fort, before returning to the van for lunch, the sun was shining as we began our walk. The forest walk was lovely with only the sounds of bird song to accompany us, after a mile or so we came to ...

A Visit to The Royal Oak

Thursday 17th March 2022 Day 1 Our day out to Boscobel House and the Royal Oak had been planned to coincide with a change in the weather, the forecast had been for blue skies and sunshine, however, it had changed over night to grey skies and windy. We called into town to top up with fuel and to get a few things for lunch, the drive up to Shropshire was fine, travelling via Wolverhampton where the diesel was 5p a litre cheaper! We arrived at Boscobel House just before lunch so decided to take a tour of the house then have lunch before walking the grounds to The Royal Oak tree and the priory. Boscobel House is a timber-framed hunting lodge built around 1632 by John Giffard, where King Charles II famously took refuge after fleeing for his life following the civil war battle of Worcester in 1651.  Boscobel House Entering the house we were greeted by English Heritage volunteer, Tim, who gave us a thorough  back ground to the history, he was brilliant, we then wondered thr...
