A Triple THS Holiday

We should start off, I suppose, for those who don't know, explaining what a THS is, Tempory Holiday Sites (THS) are run by The Camping and Caravanning Club District Associations (DAs) for other members of the Club to enjoy great value camping in some of the best holiday locations in the country. We have had this week booked off for some time, its the first week of the school holidays , Adele needs a break but the forecasts have been dismal, rain, wind, storms in fact everything you wouldn't have expected in July apart from snow and it probably did that somewhere in the country. We couldn't make up our minds where to head to, our original plan was to go to North Wales but that was going to be wet, we then checked the east coast around Wells-next-the-sea but that was wet and windy, our thoughts were then drawn towards Cornwall but that too was a very mixed bag. A Weekend in... The Elan Valley

Friday 31st May Day 1 Adele had found a THS, temporary holiday site, open in Rhayader in Wales, we phoned to make sure there were places which there were, we had thought of going Thursday but due to one thing or another we didn't go till Friday, there's not an easy route from Worcestershire, the run cross country took almost two hours. The THS was based at Gigrin Farm Red Kite Centre and was being run by the North Warwickshire DA, on arrival we were warned about soft ground at the entrance, they were not wrong, there had been an awful lot of rain the previous week and looked like some people had got stuck but luckily for us it had dried up a little although the field was soft. We pitched and had a spot of lunch, then took Archie for a short walk around the site and farm area, we had been told by the stewards that the red kites are fed a 3pm each day and that we could get a decent view from the end of the camping field.
