A Weekend In Evesham - Worcestershire.

Friday 6 October
Day 1

Work finished, we had already packed the van so were off just after 5pm.
Not far this weekend, we were joining a meet run by the West Midlands DAat Ferry Meadow in Evesham, we arrived just after 6pm after navigating road closures due to the Evesham Mop Fair. We had a really friendly welcome, there were already 30 plus units here, we found a pitch at the end of the riverside row just big enough for Vera to squeeze into.

We reversed in to give us a view of the river over breakfast in the morning.

It was just gone 7pm when the light faded so we started tea, chicken with Spanish grains, chorizo and peppers, to be washed down with a glass or two of white wine.
Adeles cold is getting worse so no tipple for her tonight just dosed up with cold & flu tablets.

Saturday 7 October
Day 2

Woke 7.30 to bright skies and breezy, Adeles feeling a little better this morning but is still full of cold.
What's happened to this mini heat wave we were supposed to have had? Adele took Izzy for her morning walk and for her to have a breathe of fresh air.
We sat with a coffee overlooking the river before starting breakfast then realised we had forgotten the eggs, after a discussion about did we or did we not need eggs for a full English it was off into town to find some, luckily there was a supermarket at the top of boat lane in the square.
Back at the van we had a full English with eggs.

After breakfast we took the riverside walk into Evesham Town past the river ferry still pulled along by hand like its been done for hundreds of years, the path took us along the meadows past the rowing club

then we turned through Abbey gardens to the old 16th century Abbey Tower,

the town has been taken over by the annual Mop Fair originally for workers to find employment, trades people would wear their Sunday best and carry an item that showed their trade, house-keepers, maids would carry a mop, hence the Mop Fair.
We stopped at the 13th century Chapter House and Almonry where alms or donations of food and money were distributed to the poor, a bit like the food banks of today, now what does that say about todays society.

Back down Boat Lane we returned to the van for tea and cake, we had bought some Austrian Apple cake, a type of sponge, biscuit, apple and mousse, it was very nice too.

The evening was spent reading and looking out over the river before having tea, being Saturday, its date night, so we started with battered mushrooms followed by streak and chips we had got key lime pie for dessert but we were both stuffed so gave that a miss. After tyding up we finished off the red wine and chatted before having an early night, Adeles cold is still quite bad so a better nights sleep will do her good.

Sunday 8 October
Day 3

We woke at 6am, it has gone cold but turned over and had another couple of hours, I took Izzy out for her morning walk along the riverside she is a little brighter this morning although she didn't want to walk to far, back to the van, Izzys breakfast was ready and our was in the pan.
After breakfast we read for a while before taking another riverside walk, this time to the right hand side, this took us down towards the Rugby club and the main line railway bridge, Izzy was at her limit now so returned to the van.

We were not ready for lunch but did succumb to a piece of key lime pie and a cuppa tea, time was pressing now, the meet required us to be off site by 2.00pm so after packing up, taking the now obligatory photo of Keni the Crow at the site we made our way home, to our surprise the Mop Fair had all gone and Evesham was back to her normal self, we took a short detour via Fladbury for a quick nose around, then on the Pershore Road back home.

We have had a lovely weekend in a smashing spot all for £9.00 per night, here's to our next adventure.
