A Weekend In Morville - Shropshire

Friday February 3
Day 1

We hadn't planned to go away this weekend, I was doing one or two little cleaning jobs on Vera when Adele popped her head in the van "do you fancy a weekend away?" well I don't need asking twice, by 11.30am we were booked onto a Caravan and Motorhome Club CL 'Park Grange' in Morvile, Shropshire.
Adele still had her afternoon school run to do so, whilst she was at work I topped up the van with water, she had been drained down because of the recent freezing temperatures, packed a few items of food in the fridge then packed a couple of jumpers just in case.

Parked up at Park Grange - Morville

We were on the road before 5.00pm to make the 18 miles or so to Moville which is situated between Bridgnorth and Much Wenlock.
We caught a lot of works traffic at this time but that didn't matter we were out in the van for the weekend. It was dark and believe it or not I think this is only the second or third time I've driven Vera at night, all was well and we were soon at the CL site, we had already been given instructions over the phone as to which pitch we were on, so parked up, got plugged in to the EHU whilst Adele went to pay the fees at the owners house at the top of the drive, by the time she had returned the heating was on and the gin was poured.
We started to get tea ready, Moule Frites and were looking forward to using our new purchase, an air fryer, we have finally had to replace our old, very old infra red oven which had stopped working on our last trip to Cornwall, it was over 20 years old (nothing last long nowadays) so moules in the moule pot and frites in the air fryer. It all worked very well, tea was a success and was waged down with a bottle of Muscadet.

Moule Frites

It had been a long day so after watching a little TV we retired for the night.

Saturday February 4
Day 2

We woke after a very good night, there had been quite a heavy frost but we have been toasty in the van with the heating on. I took Izzy for her morning walk on our return the new air fryer was back on test, cooking our full English, bacon, sausage, mushrooms and tomatoes with an egg in the pan.
Our Full English

After breakfast and tidying up we took the short drive to Ludlow, one of our favourite Shropshire towns, we parked up in the coach & long stay car park then took the short walk into the town, the Saturday market was in full swing, we came across a stall selling animal sculptures made from recycled metals by artisans in Africa they were really quite something.

We then took a walk around the castle, always impressive then back into the town admiring the old buildings,

we came across St. Lawrence's Church somewhere we had not seen before, the original 11th century church was expanded in 1199 and was later had major re-building in 1433, it was beautiful inside not what you would expect in a small market town, it was good to see it being repurposed for today with a coffee shop and lounge area, a warm space for locals and visitors alike.
After checking out some more of the black and white houses we returned to Vera and back to Park Grange CL.

Tea tonight will be pork chops, the air fryer is certainly being put through its paces, sautéed potatoes and mange touts.
After tea we started a new game, Adele used to play it when she was a teenager but I've not played before, Othello.

Its sort of an extended version on noughts and crosses, it was really good not straight forward at all.
Adeles experience paid off winning by 7 points but this will now rival scrabble and backgammon.

Sunday February 5
Day 3

Woke later after another good nights sleep, Izzy wasn't happy about walking this morning, we think she walked too much around Ludlow yesterday. I took my morning coffee on a bench over looking the site pond which was lovely.

We had breakfast and decided to go to Bridgnorth today on our way home but not to walk too much to give Izzy a rest.
We phoned ahead to Ye Ol' Punchbowl to book for Sunday lunch.
The walk around Bridgnorth was a pleasant stroll, the town was busy with day-trippers. we walked around the walls of High Town, the cliff railway is still closed, hopefully Shropshire council will find a way to bring it back.

Before long it was time for our late lunch, the car park at the punchbowl is small and was busy but we eventually got into a space.

The carvery lunch was lovely, five different meats with an almost endless choice of vegetables.
It was late afternoon when we left, bellies full.
