Clun, Shropshire - September 2019

Clun, Shropshire
September 2019

Less than an hour from home but could be a thousand miles away

Friday 20th September
We left Kidderminster just after 3.00pm and was on the Camping & Caravanning Club CS (certified site) just after 4.00pm had tea in the evening sunshine, it's very quite here, just bird song and the distant sounds of cattle, being latter in the year the light fades quickly and it became very dark, we are not used to not having street lights on.

Saturday 21st September
Woke 8.00am to blue skies and sunshine, feeling very warm for the time of year, had full english breakfast then drove into Clun, parking was difficult so ended up parking just outside the village and walked in,Clun is a quaint village set on the bend of the river Clun and overlooked by the spectacular castle ruins, built in the 11th century.

We walked up to the castle now owned by National Heritage and is free to enter, its a great place to explore. After spending a couple of hours wandering around the site in the sun we walked into the village though the narrow streets, it was very quite and sleepy and as we were approaching lunch time we stopped at a local pub which had its own micro brewery, the Clun Brewery, we sampled a couple of glasses of its IPA ale, well it would be rude not too.

The walk back to the van took us into the centre of the village and to the 15th century stone pack horse bridge, we sat by the river and watched the world go by. By now it was getting very hot so decided to go back to the CS and have a bit to eat.

Tomorrow will be our wedding anniversary so i had bought some patisserie cakes and a bottle of fizz to celebrate, having enjoyed our treats we the sat in the sunshine and read until tea.
Tea tonight would be steak and chips with a glass or two of red wine, followed by cheese to complete the meal.  Again it has gone very dark, the stars looked spectacular. Tomorrow should be another lovely day.

Sunday 22nd September
Woke to rain!
Had a little lie in, then had breakfast, it's still very grey and drizzling.  We found an old film of our travels from 1989 so watched it with coffee waiting for it to brighten up, unfortunately it didn't. We waited until lunchtime and decide to pack up for home, we came back via Ludlow and called into the farm shop, bought some local cheese and other goodies for tea.
The weather still hadn't improved so travelled back, arrived home about 4.30pm.
We had had a lovely anniversary weekend, Clun will be on the list for a return visit.
