One of the most obvious benefits of having a campervan is that you can get away at the drop of a hat. Since getting our beni 120 we have had quite a few weekends away, not always very far away but far enough to feel like we are on holiday. One area we like is Shropshire and less than an hour from home is the lovely market town of Ludlow.

We were unable to get away until after work on Friday, but we were still on the camping and caravaning club CL site at Elsich Barn Farm by teatime, it was a lovely evening we sat with a gin & tonic looking out on the beautiful, peaceful countryside, we had planned to have a BBQ for tea, Adele had prepared some chicken and chorizo brochettes (kerbabs) which were lovely with a glass of wine, tomorrow we would explore the town and castle.
The CL (certified location) sat a couple of miles from Ludlow on a working dairy farm overlooking beautiful, peaceful countryside, the site had a small amenity block containing toilet, wash basin and shower, there was electric hook up but we didn't take it.
We had a great nights sleep and woke to disappointing grey skies, we had our usual camping breakfast, a full english, then made our way into Ludlow, the town streets are quite narrow and parking can be difficult, so we made our way to the coach park where there was amble parking for the campervan.
We walked around the town, where there are many half-timbered houses which look splendid, the town has many independent shops with a good open air market in the square outside the castle, we bought steak for tonight's BBQ and a fresh baguette for steak sandwiches, some local cheese from a stall on the market to have after tea, the weather had now improved with glorious sunshine bathing the town, we decided to returned to the CS to soak up the sunshine with a G&T, our BBQ was lovely and the steak tasted lovely with a glass of wine.
The evening sun went down giving spectacular views of the Clee Hills in the distance whilst we finished our tea with the splendid goats cheese bought earlier with the last of the red wine.

The following morning was bright and sunny, after breakfast and paying the camp fees we went back into Ludlow via a drive around Craven Arms, parked again in the coach park, then walked around the castle walls down to the river Teme where by the weir, is a lovely coffee shop were we had tea and homemade cake. The walk back up the hill was harder than we thought but I think that was down to the cake! we then followed the paths to continued the castle wall walk, the inside of the castle looked exciting but we were now running short on time so made our way back to the campervan for our short trip home.
Ludlow and the surrounding area is well worth a visit, some great architecture and beautiful countryside, a quick weekend trip but so relaxing.
