Our First Trip - March 2019
Our First Trip
March 2019
after our beach walk we went into Tenby, our first real attempt at using public car parks with the campervan, we needn't have worried, Pembrokeshire Council had marked out some larger parking spaces which were ideal, we payed our car parking dues and walked around Tenby town, Tenby has been a favorite place of ours for many years, a walk down by the colourful harbour with its fleet of small fishing boats is so relaxing or around the old town walls was, as expected, very quite compared with our summer trips, it was really lovely and peaceful.
March 2019
After picking up the Benivan 120 we decided to take our first trip out to Tenby, Pembrokeshire.
We put a few items in the van, topped up with water then ventured out to fill the under floor gas tank, I'm sure that petrol stations put the LPG pumps in the most difficult places so as to entertain the staff watching 'newbies' struggling to position their vans, then comes the connection of the pump to the van, not rocket science you would think but after about fifteen minutes trying a kind gentleman waiting behind us came over, which was a god send especially as I then had to operate the pump itself.
Eventually all done with the added bonus that a full tank cost about £7.00.
Onward to Wales, a good drive from the midlands to Tenby, on arrival we went out to Manorbier our favorite area on the coast, we took Izzy our ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, for a walk on the beach. It was March but the weather was lovely, the time soon passed and before long the sun was setting and we hadn't found anywhere to stay, there lay a problem, a problem that we do not find in the summer - there are no camp sites open, checking on a couple of apps on the phone we found an over night park up just up the road, so after picking up tea made our way to the park up.
Our first night away in the new van wild camping with fish & chips and a bottle of prosecco to celebrate what could be better.
The night went very cold but the vans heating was lovely, after a good nights sleep we awoke to blue skies and sunshine, I took Izzy for her morning walk and found four other campervans or motorhomes had also parked up for the night. We had a good old fashioned full english breakfast overlooking the sea, then after another walk around the headland at Skrinkle Haven we packed up and moved on to the beach at Penally, a stroll through the edge of the golf course (look out for low flying golf balls) then by the army riffle range (look out for stray bullets) you reach the far south end of Tenby beach with views back towards the town and out to Caldey Island, lovely at any time of the year, this part of the beach is always quite even in the summer months and always worth a visit.
Our visit to Tenby was over all to quickly, a really lovely trip and a great way to check out our 'van, the drive home was relaxed, very pleasant and uneventful.
On the Monday morning when leaving for work i noticed a faint smell of gas, thought nothing of it as you sometimes get the odd whiff, when i got home later the smell had got worse, really bad AND I could hear a hissing sound. Investigating under the 'van i found the main pipe from the tank to the regulator was loose! I turned off the main stop tap and called Marquis first thing Tuesday, they were very good and asked me to call in 08.00 on Wednesday morning. They found the issue; fixed it and gave a full pressure test to make sure. That was the first of, unfortunately, many trips to Tewksbury for warranty work, far to many for my liking but they are stories for a later date.
